Liang Shih-chiu (1903–1987) was the first scholar to have translated the complete works of Shakespeare into Chinese; and the editor of substantial textbooks and dictionaries. In the 1930s when a battle line was drawn between two linguistic camps: the vernacular against the classical, Liang has created a rich and effective medium by skillfully blending the two. A Cottager's Sketchbook exemplifies a new way for literary expression, and endears him to the general readers for decades.
The translator, Ta-tsun Chen was a student of Liang and a veteran translator with the United Nations.

Liang Shih-chiu was a renowned educator, writer, translator, literary critic and lexicographer. He graduated from Tsinghua College and Colorado Spring College (Colorado Springs). He then proceeded to Harvard University and Columbia University for graduate study in English literature.
Ta-tsun Chen is a professional translator with the United Nations since 1969. He has translated Albert Schweitzer's Out of My Life and Thought into Chinese.
