黃河大合唱——室樂伴奏合唱版本 Yellow River Cantata 冼星海曲、光未然詞、官美如主編
About the Book
Yellow River Cantata, one of the most popular choral works in contemporary Chinese music, was composed by Xian Xinghai during the Sino-Japanese War. Based on a poem written by Guang Weiran, the cantata is well known for its overflowing patriotism and overwhelming emotional force. As required by most of the existing versions, this piece is often accompanied by full-sized orchestra. In light of this, the Chung Chi Choir of The Chinese University of Hong Kong has rearranged this cantata into an "ensemble accompaniment" version, enabling choirs to perform this work with more accessible resources yet with equal vigour. This Chamber version also distinguishes itself from others in retaining the original third movement of the cantata, which is only accompanied by Sanxian and has almost been abandoned since the work was orchestrated in western instruments.
In addition to the music scores, a number of articles written by Xian and others are included in this book to let readers better understand the background of this important musical work.
The publication of this book also comes in time for the commemoration of the 100-year birth anniversary of the Composer.
