About the Book
Keys to Chinese Character Writing is designed to show beginners how to
write Chinese characters properly. The book introduces the principles that
govern the construction of Chinese characters, the basic strokes and the proper
stroke order. It is accompanied by a DVD which clearly demonstrates how to write
those Chinese characters introduced in the book. The book is an excellent
companion to Keys to Chinese Language I and II (The Chinese University
Press).

Jing-heng Sheng Ma has a Ph.D. in Chinese Linguistics from the University of
Michigan at Ann Arbor. She is Mayling Soong Professor of Chinese Studies and
Chair of the East Asian Languages and Literatures Department at Wellesley
College, where she has been a faculty member since 1988 .Her research interests
include Chinese Linguistics and the development of multimedia teaching materials
for teaching Chinese as a second language.
